Hostas are the best option for shady, slightly damp areas in the garden. They come in all types of foliage shapes, colours and sizes. Hostas produce a lovely lush and cool feel in a shady garden and establish over many years to form beautiful clumps that can be divided.
Hostas are prized primarily for their foliage but they also have attractive, often scented, summer flowers. These hardy clump-forming perennials are popular with container gardeners and are unbeatable for low-growing foliage interest in spring and summer. Thriving in light and medium shade, they're incredibly useful plants.

Use a granular fertiliser at planting with plenty of organic matter around the plant to get it established. Once established Hostas need to be protected from slugs and snails in the garden that are attracted to its lush, leafy foilage. The plant will naturally die back in winter before new shoots emerge the following spring.
